Queensland Australia, October 3, 2024 —  G’day, my name is Harrison, and I’m the Managing Director of Yura Tech, a proudly 100% Indigenous-owned software technology company. As a KaraJarri man raised on Larrakia land in Australia’s top end, I understand firsthand the value of connecting traditional wisdom with the modern world. This understanding forms the heart of Yura Tech, where we aim to bring meaningful, culturally empowered solutions to Australian organizations, including government agencies looking for innovation that respects and empowers community.

Our Journey
The Yura Tech journey is deeply intertwined with my own life path. My career began with a passion for tennis, which took me to Brisbane to pursue professional coaching. A significant part of this journey was my role as Head Coach and Mentor with the Evonne Goolagong Foundation, an initiative that takes pride in fostering Indigenous talent through tennis as a vehicle for empowerment and education. Alongside the Foundation, I traveled to remote communities across Australia, leading “Come & Try” tennis days aimed at discovering Indigenous youth with athletic potential and showing them that tennis can open doors to academic and personal growth. These experiences taught me the importance of guidance, representation, and access to opportunity for Indigenous communities.

This work extended beyond coaching — it was about nurturing dreams and resilience, using sport as a means to create pathways. As part of Australia’s first all-Indigenous tennis team, I was privileged to represent our country at the International Oceania Championships, where we won gold and silver medals. Coaching figures such as the Governor-General, alongside my work in the Foundation, deeply influenced my belief in the power of role models and representation to make lasting impacts in communities.

Later, I expanded my expertise with a degree in Human Movement, Sports Science, and Nutritional Medicine, which fuelled my passion for holistic development, resulting in the launch of my gym in Darwin. However, innovation has always been my true calling. I ventured into digital fitness technology, developing online coaching programs, mobile apps, and even the country’s first mobile strength-based gym trailer through Forces Fitness. These initiatives, along with my experience as an aviation firefighter for nearly eight years, strengthened my resolve to create solutions that adapt to change and overcome challenges.
